El Tri: Nery's Desire To Be In Qualifier
Nery Castillo reflected on his performance in his first match after six months of inactivity, his current situation with Chivas and desire to receive the nod for the upcoming qualifier. Eriksson also spoke about the confidence gained from the victory.
The talented striker had a decent showing for 73 minutes, typical of a player who has been inactive for a long period of time and determined to recover match fitness.
“I felt good in the first half, I think I played well and in the second half I tired a bit, after so much time without playing it is normal to be out of rhythm,” Castillo said.
At moments, Castillo displayed short bursts of energy and quality which greatly benefited El Tri.
In reference to the ongoing drama involving Cuauhtémoc Blanco and his willingness to come out of retirement for the match against Honduras, Castillo mentioned that great players appear at crucial moments and that ‘Cuau’ is one of the best.
“It is a pity (that he announced his retirement from El Tri) because he is a great player and for many years has been the best of México, if he wants to return he should be given the opportunity,” he stated.
“At important moments the great players always appear and he is a great player.”
The starlet also expressed his desire to be part of the call-up list for the crucial World Cup qualifier at Honduras next week.
"Ask the coach, I would really like to be there," he added.
In the course of the week, Chivas officials were determined to count with the striker for the remainder of the Torneo Apertura and the Copa Sudamericana, but his presence on the Rebaño Sagrado depended on Shakhtar Donetsk, club with whom Castillo is currently under contract.
However, the Ukrainian side did not send the players international pass and were unwilling to release Castillo, which resulted in failed negotiations.
"That doesn’t depend on me, the paper (international pass) that I was expecting did not arrive and it is a bit difficult because Shaktar does not want to give up that paper," explained the 24-year old. "Now I want to think on the match against Honduras and later I hope to find another team."
Finally, Castillo stated that he does not know where he will train in the following days, since he will not be able to continue doing so with Guadalajara.
“The Federation has yet to inform me where I will stay.”
Manager Sven-Göran Eriksson also took time to reflect on the encounter and indicated that the victory will serve the team recover confidence ahead of the qualifier with Honduras.
"This was a match that will give confidence to all of us," expressed the Swede.
"The players demonstrated that we can play well away from home and the result was important after two matches without a victory."
As anticipation grows for who will be included on the list for the November 19 qualifier against Honduras, Eriksson is set to reveal his call-up list this Friday.
