Tigres defender, Diego Martínez, received the call-up for the Mexico National team for Wednesday's friendly match against Ecuador in Phoenix, Arizona.

It had been speculated that Martínez would be the substitute of Pumas midfielder, Israel Castro, who was taken off the list after he suffered an ankle injury against Tecos last Sunday.

The Federación Mexicana de Futbol, was quick to inform that the Tigres player had originally been contemplated and his call-up depended on his satisfactory weekend performance against Toluca and a medical exam.

Martínez expressed his joy at receiving a new call-up to el Tri, and indicated that this is a great opportunity to demonstrate his quality and get considered for future National team activity.

"I am happy to be here, and be considered by the coach, after being injured it is good to be back on the National side," he said.

"We know that for the qualification matches the players from Europe play, so we have to demonstrate ourselves in these matches."

El Tri integrated late Sunday night at their training grounds, Centro de Alto Rendimiento, ahead of their friendly against Ecuador the following Wednesday in Phoenix, Arizona.
