Borgetti: Sven Is Wrong For Mexico
Mexico striker Jared Borgetti has expressed his dissatisfaction at Sven Goran Eriksson’s rumoured appointment as national team manager.
Eriksson is said to be flying to Mexico City today to finalise a deal that will see his blighted tenure at Manchester City reach an end.
The Mexican FA are thought to be keen on the opportunity to bring the coach across the Atlantic, but some players have stated their reservations towards the appointment.
The chorus of disapproval is led by Jared Borgetti, Mexico’s all time leading goalscorer with 43 strikes.
The ex-Bolton Wanderers front-man is now playing for CF Monterray in his homeland, and is unsure that Eriksson understands the characteristics of Mexican football. Borgetti also suggested that the Swede’s lack of Spanish would be a hindrance.
He said: “In Mexico it is generally assumed that the coach has to be someone from Mexico, and that the coach would have spent a year learning about the side.
“I don't think that Eriksson is the correct decision as many of the players don't speak English and I doubt that he knows much about Mexican football.”
