Hopeful Youngster
Guillermo Ochoa has long been hailed as the next great Mexican goalkeeper, but his time has not yet come. While he likely won't be the man in goal once World Cup qualifying resumes, Ochoa could make it difficult to overlook and could force coach Javier Aguirre's hand with a strong Gold Cup.

FMF executive Nestor de la Torre does not want players like Edgar Castillo on El Tri. While not speaking about Castillo directly, de la Torre said he wanted only players with a desire and willingness to play for Mexico on the team. Castillo revealed this week his desire to play for the U.S.

Rayado Rage
Like Puebla, Monterrey were set for Copa Sudamericana. With the draw scheduled for July 3, the Mexican clubs were anxiously awaiting their future. Now, club officials are angry and bitter over CONCACAF's decision to withdraw from the tournament.

Take Two
Pumas have been the only club to repeat as champions since the Mexican league went to its current short-season format in 1996. While the 2004 club's feat was historic, the 2009 version is hoping to be legendary as well. Players have already set the bar high for the upcoming Apertura 09 season.

Rivalry Time
There has been recent burst of flame in the U.S. - Mexican rivalry of late. Tigres fullback Edgar Castillo could turn his back on El Tri for a shot at the U.S. national team. Meanwhile, Chivas owner Jorge Vergara says Mexico will win the next clash with the Confederations Cup finalists.

SuperTune-ups
San Luis were not among the four clubs to survive the group stage of SuperLiga. Needing a win against Chivas USA, San Luis settled for a tough-luck draw and were sent packing. Still, the club said the tournament was positive and some fine-tuning was left before starting the season.
