Charlie Davies scores first goal since 2011

The Revolution striker endured some difficult years following the car crash that almost ended his career in 2009.
New England Revolution striker Charlie Davies scored his first goal in almost three years in his team's 2-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls.

Manchester, New Hampshire, native Davies nodded a cross from Teal Bunbury home in the 20th minute of the match to send his team up 1-0, although New York later overcame a Matt Miazga red card with goals from Dax McCarty and Bradley Wright-Phillips to win 2-1.

Davies' last goal had come all the way back on Sept. 10, 2011, when he scored all three in a 3-0 win for D.C. United over Chivas USA.

His time with D.C. (a loan from French club Sochaux) produced 11 goals in 26 games and was followed up with an unsuccessful season with Randers FC in Denmark. He joined New England on a loan last year before making a permanent move ahead of the 2014 season.
