thumbnail Hello,

RSL looks to reassert itself in the fight for Western Conference dominance, but LA is fighting hard as it eyes the postseason.

The LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake faced each other twice in the first month of the season, and will continue one of Major League Soccer's pre-eminent rivalries when RSL visits the StubHub Center.

RSL will have been happier with its performances in that early going, taking a win and a draw against the California club that formed the basis for Salt Lake's 12-game unbeaten run to start the season. That form propelled the Utah side up the table, and it now occupies second place in the Western Conference.

But since that run ended, RSL has sputtered with just one win in its past five games, while LA rolls into this fixture on a six-match undefeated streak. And the Galaxy will look to capitalize on that form and gather vital points as they chase a playoff berth for a sixth straight year.

Defender Omar Gonzalez of the Galaxy could make his MLS return after participating in the U.S. national team's run to the second round in Brazil, while American teammates Nick Rimando and Kyle Beckerman already hit the ground running, helping Salt Lake to a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution on July 4.
