thumbnail Hello,

The midfielder was a revelation in the 2013 season, winning the MLS MVP and earning an improved contract in the process.

The Chicago Fire announced Thursday that the club has signed Mike Magee to a new contract. Per league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Magee was acquired in a May 2013 trade from the LA Galaxy in exchange for Robbie Rogers. In 22 games with the Men in Red last season, Magee scored 15 goals and tallied four assists, and won the MLS MVP in the process.

“As a kid, I would have paid to play for the Chicago Fire, so as you can imagine, I’m beyond happy to have signed a new deal,” said Magee, a Chicago native. “My only goal with this team is to win an MLS Cup.”

The 29-year-old missed first two matches of the 2014 season with a hamstring strain and returned to the lineup March 23. Magee has scored one goal and added one assist in three matches this season.

Magee received his first U.S. national team call-up in January but was unable to play in the team's friendly against Korea after a bout of food poisoning.
