The 26-year-old La Liga veteran officially joins Colorado after impressing throughout preseason.The Colorado Rapids added some Spanish class to their midfield Tuesday, signing La Liga veteran Jose Mari after a preseason trial.
The 26-year-old most recently played with Real Zaragoza, logging 16 matches in La Liga in 2012-13 before continuing with the club in the Segunda Division this season. He kicked off his career in 2005 with Union Deportiva Rotea and has also played in the lower levels of Spanish soccer for Atletico Sanluqueno, Real Murcia and Real Jaen.
The midfielder had been on trial with Colorado, playing four matches during the Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson, Ariz.
"Jose Mari is a talented player with a deep understanding of the game and a lot of technical ability," said Rapids technical director Paul Bravo in a news release. "We've had a chance to see him in action throughout preseason and believe he is a good fit for our squad, bringing a great deal of experience and skill. We're thrilled to officially welcome him to the team."
