The Union continued their midfield makeover by adding the former captain of the Ligue 1 side. The Philadelphia Union announced they have signed French midfielder Vincent Nogueira from FC Sochaux-Montbeliard of Ligue 1. Nogueira will join the team pending reception of his U.S. P-1 Visa, International Transfer Certificate, and will occupy an international roster spot.
Nogueira, 26, was Sochaux's longest-tenured player, having joined the club in the 2007-08 season. He made 114 appearances for the club in Ligue 1 play and scored six goals.
“We’re very happy to have finalized the deal with Vincent and are looking forward to him joining his teammates in Florida for preseason,” manager John Hackworth said in a club release. “As a player who has captained a club like Sochaux for several years, we think he brings a lot of quality to our club individually and can be an important piece for our club going forward.”
Nogueira is the third major midfield addition of the offseason for Philadelphia, joining Argentine designated player Cristian Maidana and American international Maurice Edu, also a DP.
