The 2005 MLS Rookie of the Year and 2007 MLS Defender of the Year, who turns 30 next week, has agreed terms with Columbus and will be added to the roster on receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
Parkhurst began his career in MLS with New England and distinguished himself before signing with FC Nordsjaelland of Denmark in 2008. After winning multiple trophies in Denmark, Parkhurst joined Bundesliga side Augsburg in December 2012 but struggled for playing time.
“We are excited to be adding a top quality player like Michael to our club,” Crew Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter said in a news release. “He is an elite player that will have an immediate impact both on and off the field. Michael’s success in Major League Soccer, combined with his proven experience in Europe and with the U.S. Men’s National Team make him a valuable piece for our team.”
Parkhurst has made 23 appearances for the United States.
