Former MLS star Jeff Cunningham is currently at Hai Phong FC trying to earn a contract and has scored one goal in two friendly matches so far.
Major League Soccer legend Jeff Cunningham is currently on trial with Hai Phong FC in Vietnam in his second attempt to earn a contract abroad.
Having spent much of his career in the USA, Cunningham has won the MLS Golden boot in 2006 and 2009. With a total overall haul of 134 goals, he is the joint MLS record top scorer with Landon Donovan.
Despite his age, the 37-year-old has shown no desire to retire as he attempts to earn a second stint in an overseas league after playing in the Guatemalan Liga Nacional for C.S.D Communicaciones.
Cunningham, who is also a former USA international, has so far appeared on two occasions for Hai Phong FC in the preseason Thanh-Nghe tournament.
Despite his age, the forward still managed to impress with a goal in his second game for the club in a 2-2 draw with Vissai Ninh on Wednesday.
Hai Phong is no stranger to high profile signings, having signed former Brazil international Denilson in a record-breaking deal back in 2009.
Should Cunningham’s move go through, he will be the second USA international to have played in Vietnam. MLS New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyun was the first after joining Hoang Anh Gia Lai in 2009.
