The former San Jose coach has been named the new head man in Chicago, taking over as both head coach and director of soccer.Former San Jose coach Frank Yallop has been confirmed as both the head coach and director of soccer by the Chicago Fire.
Goal reported on Wednesday that the Fire had settled on Yallop as the man to take over the coaching position, with the Fire confirming that news on Thursday while also naming Yallop as the director of soccer for the team.
“In this league it’s all about competing and winning at a consistent level,” Fire owner Andrew Hauptman said in a team release. “Frank is a proven winner with a tremendous soccer pedigree as both a player and as a coach. He has won at the MLS level and coached on the international stage. I look forward to him bringing his expertise to Chicago, not to mention a championship, as he has done in the past.”
Yallop has previously held coaching jobs with San Jose, Los Angeles and the Canadian national team.
“I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to join the Chicago Fire Soccer Club,” said Yallop. “The Fire has a rich tradition, great core of talent, and committed, forward-thinking leadership. I can’t wait to get to work with the Men in Red.”
