Columbus Crew 0-1 New England Revolution: Revs clinch playoff berth

Juan Agudelo's goal in the first half stood up for the Revs, who are back in the playoffs after a three-season absence.
The New England Revolution clinched a playoff berth with a 1-0 win at the Columbus Crew on Sunday, as Juan Agudelo's first-half goal provided the margin of victory.

The game's only goal arrived in the 28th minute after a fantastic give-and-go between Agudelo and Lee Nguyen. Agudelo's backheel sent Nguyen in and instead of shooting he squared back for Agudelo to finish low past Andy Gruenebaum.

The Revs dropped back after the goal, looking to maintain their advantage, and it proved successful as Matt Reis made several key stops to maintain his team's advantage. Just before the final whistle, Dominic Oduro was shown with a straight red card after an off-the-ball kick from behind on Revs midfielder Kelyn Rowe.

With the final whisle, the visitors locked up their first postseason berth since 2009. The Revs clinched the third place spot in the Eastern Conference, and will face Sporting Kansas City in the conference semifinals.
