Toronto FC has announced a Friday press conference to make what the team is calling a major announcement, and sources tell Goal it will be the hiring of a general manager.
Tim Bezbatchenko, the MLS senior director of player relations and competition, will be named the team's new GM, sources have confirmed to Goal.com.
Real Salt Lake GM Garth Lagerwey had also been linked to the position, but Bezbatchenko has been chosen and will look to use his knowledge of the MLS salary cap and player pool to help TFC build a winner after so many years of disappointment.
Toronto FC has undergone its latest round of front office changes after the recent dismissal of team president Kevin Payne. The hiring of Bezbatchenko, an MLS salary cap expert, suggests TFC is ready to stick with Ryan Nelsen as head coach and the person leading the charge on foreign player recruitment.
