Chivas USA finally won last week, and it could put a dent in Vancouver's playoff ambitions.
The Whitecaps (10-9-6) are one point out of the playoffs, back in seventh, Seattle, the current occupant of that crucial fifth spot, has a crucial pair of games in hand. For the 'Caps to maintain contact, they'll have to avoid dropping points in this final stretch.
Chivas USA (5-14-6) has long since abandoned any postseason ambitions, but the Goats are well-positioned to play the spoiler. Last week, they picked up their second win since March to deny the New York Red Bulls at equaliing Eastern Conference leader Montreal on points.
These teams met twice already this season. Chivas won 2-1 in LA on March 30 before Vancouver turned around with a 3-1 win in British Columbia on June 16. In seven all-time meetings, Vancouver has three wins and there have been three draws, with Chivas' win earlier this season its lone three-point haul.
