Hackworth praises 'amazing' Bendik

The TFC goalkeeper came to his team's rescue a number of times, impressing against his old coach
Toronto FC goalkeeper Joe Bendik has a big fan in Philadelphia Union head coach John Hackworth. The 23-year old shotstopper, in his second MLS season, made nine saves. A late goal from Union striker Jack McInerney soiled his clean sheet.

The choice stop of the clash came in the second minute of stoppage time in the second half. With the game tied at one, Jose Kleberson played Antoine Hoppenot through alone on goal, but Bendik rushed out to foil the forward, who had seemed spoiled for choice.

"Joe Bendik was amazing today," said Hackworth after the game. "You've got to give him a lot of credit. He makes unbelievable saves.

"He's a young goalkeeper in this league. I was fortunate enough to have him in the under-17 residency program. I know his quality, but when it's on the line, in an opposing stadium, he certainly had a very good day."

Bendik has played every minute of Totonto's season so far, allowing nine goals and making 20 saves.
