A goal in the dying minutes gave Dallas a 1-0 away win over the Revs, keeping FCD top of the West.FOXBOROUGH -- FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman made crucial second half substitutions that proved to be the difference in a 1-0 road victory over the New England Revolution Saturday afternoon.
Despite dominating possession for most of the game, FC Dallas found chances hard to come by in the first half. A few attacking adjustments by Hyndman finally broke down the bunkered Revolution defense.
In the 87th minute substitute forward Blas Perez erased all forms of worry for the visitors, as he headed home a cross from midfielder David Ferreira.
Perez recently returned from World Cup qualifier duty with Panama after playing two games. Hyndman did not want to exhaust the forward, so used him as a substitute for Kenny Cooper.
"What we felt like, we just needed someone fresh up there that could hold the ball a little bit different,” Hyndman said. "When you bring in a Blas Perez, it does affect the opposition quite a bit."
With the victory FC Dallas improves its record to 4-1-0, good for top in the Western Conference.
"I think the team did well to battle,” Cooper said. "We have gotten off to a great start. This just improved our record and I think it might be the best start in the club's history. Hopefully we can continue to improve on it. Four and one is great and hopefully we can continue to improve upon it."
With such a strong start it seems that Hyndman has finally found the right pieces early in the MLS season.
“I think a big part is that the team really enjoys each other,” Hyndman said. “You never know how important team chemistry is until you lose it. I thought we struggled with that the last year and a half. This year I think the guys are really playing for each other. They’re working for each other, they are following directions. They are having great training.”
