Chicago Fire acquire Jeff Larentowicz from Colorado

Larentowicz joins Joel Lindpere as veteran midfielders the Fire have acquired in the MLS offseason.
The Chicago Fire announced that the club has acquired Jeff Larentowicz and the 30th selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for the Fire’s 11th pick in the 2013 draft, allocation money and a 2013 international slot.

Larentowicz, 29, has been one of the better defensive midfielders in MLS during his career, which originally started in New England in 2005. He made 111 regular season appearances for the Revolution between 2005 and 2009, before being traded to Colorado, where he won MLS Cup in 2010.

“Jeff is a hard-nosed player who has consistently been one of the best midfielders in MLS,” said Fire president of soccer operations Javier Leon. “His MLS Cup and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship pedigree will be a welcome addition to our squad.”

Larentowicz has been capped four times for the U.S. national team.
