Fernandez, 27, joins the club from French side Nice, where he featured sparingly since his transfer in 2011. With Peruvian side Universitario, he made over 140 starts between 2005 and 2011.
“Raul Fernandez is a very athletic goalkeeper who has gained a lot of experience playing internationally with Peru,” said FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman. “He has a strong command of the box and will compete for the starting position with FC Dallas. He is an extremely motivated individual. I expect he will embrace this opportunity.”
Fernandez has earned 21 caps with the Peruvian national team, and has started in six of Peru’s nine 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Fernandez is expected to compete with Chris Seitz for the team's starting role after it let Kevin Hartman go in the offseason.
