D.C. United goalkeeping pair set for England training stints

Joe Willis will spend time at Sunderland, while Andrew Dykstra will train with Hartlepool United.
Bill Hamid is not the only D.C. United goalkeeper busy during the MLS offseason.

With Hamid in U.S. national team training camp, D.C. United's other two goalkeepers, Joe Willis and Andrew Dykstra, are slated for training stints in England. Willis will spend time with Premier League side Sunderland, while Dykstra will train with League One outfit Hartlepool United, the MLS club announced on Tuesday.

"Any time you have an opportunity to train with a Premier League team, you're not really going to pass it up," Willis told D.C. United's official website. "My goals are really to enjoy myself and take it as a learning experience, try to learn as much as I can from the coaches I have over there."

Willis made 10 starts in 2012, his second season as a professional, while Dykstra received all of his playing time while on loan with USL Pro champion Charleston. Both are expected to be back in time for when D.C. kicks off its preseason training on Jan. 17.
