The Montreal Impact have made their first signing of 2013.
Bologna FC confirmed via a press release on Thursday that midfielder Andrea Pisanu will be joining the Impact on loan until December 2013. The 30-year-old winger impressed during a short trial period with the Impact when the club was in Florence for its postseason training camp in November.
After joining Bologna from Parma in the winter of 2010, Pisanu spent the majority of the next two years sidelined with injuries. Last season, Bologna sent Pisanu on loan to third division Prato, where the Cagliari native managed to play somewhat regularly. He returned to Bologna last summer as surplus to requirements and because of his 380,000 euro per year contract until 2015, the club had a difficult time finding suitors for the player.
Sources told Goal.com last week that Bologna was willing to buy out the remainder of Pisanu’s contract at a reduced fee and give the player to the Impact for free. But Pisanu and Bologna weren’t able to reach an agreement on the buyout fee of his contract – Pisanu wanted the full value of what was left – which is why Bologna finally decided to send Pisanu on loan again for a year.
Therefore, Bologna and the Impact will be sharing the player’s salary for 2013, but the exact figures have yet to be released.
