thumbnail Hello,

The league announced its schedule for 2013 home openers. Among them is reigning champion Los Angeles hosting the Chicago Fire on March 3.

Major League Soccer will get off to its earliest start in league history in 2013, and fans received a glimpse at what the opening weeks of the season will look like. MLS announced its home openers for all 19 teams on Tuesday, a slate that features several top matches that should get the season off to a strong start. It includes six matches on Saturday, March 2, and a slate of three games that following Sunday that will include the Supporters' Shield-holding San Jose Earthquakes, two-time defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls.

The new-look Galaxy will be kicking off the post-David-Beckham era at home against the Chicago Fire, while the Red Bulls, newly free of Rafa Marquez, will open on the road against the Portland Timbers. In fact, New York will not get a home match until the third week of the season, when longtime rival DC United comes to town. San Jose, meanwhile, opens against Real Salt Lake in a clash of Western Conference powers.

The New England Revolution won't host a game until Week 4, when the club welcomes FC Dallas to Gillette Stadium. As for other matches of note on the opening day of the season, the Houston Dynamo meets D.C. in a rematch of the Eastern Conference final; FC Dallas and Colorado meet in Texas in a rematch of the 2010 MLS Cup final; and two teams who have made noise this offseason, Philadelphia and Sporting Kansas City, will square off at PPL Park.
