Robbie Keane happy to stay with LA Galaxy for the long term

The striker looks set for a long stay in Southern California, and claims he hasn't decided on another short-term loan in England this offseason.
CARSON, Calif. -- Robbie Keane did his best to dispel any notion that he'd be looking to leave North America anytime soon in a press conference ahead of Saturday's MLS Cup.

Keane has been a major hit during his time in Los Angeles, so much so that his future in MLS has been called into question a number of times, with moves back to Europe mooted. But the Irishman plans to stay for the foreseeable future.

"I'm really enjoying my time here, and as long as I keep enjoying myself and as long as I keep letting my football do the talking I'll be very happy to stay," Keane said. "I look forward to a number of years here."

The Irish striker hasn't always spoken so definitively about his MLS future. Following a successful loan spell with Aston Villa last winter, Keane set off alarms in Southern California with his comments to The Daily Mirror.

“I enjoyed my spell at Villa," Keane said. "It’s a great club, but it was my choice to go to the States. I could have stayed in the Premier League for a few more years but I didn’t.

“When I go back to LA it could be completely different," he continued. "People have seen over the years with the clubs I’ve been at how quickly I leave if I don’t fit in.”

Fitting in hasn't been much of a problem for Keane since his arrival in August 2011. In 32 regular season games with the team, he has scored 18 goals and added 10 assists. In five playoff games this year he has scored five goals. He was named to the 2012 MLS Best XI earlier this week, and will take place in his second consecutive MLS Cup on Saturday.

"I'm very happy and very content here," Keane said. "When you're playing in a team like this and getting to championship finals every year, for me this is the second year in a row, so that certainly does help."

After another successful season, many EPL clubs will be hoping to snag Keane on another short-term loan during the MLS offseason, with Norwich, Everton and QPR reportedly joining Aston Villa as suitors. Keane says he hasn't decided on a short-term return to England this winter.

"Regarding going back, it isn't something I've even thought about to be honest with you," he said. "My main focus now is tomorrow's game and let's see how I feel, but for now my first prerogative is the LA Galaxy and that will always be the case."
