The former Vancouver Whitecaps striker is nominated for the FIFA Puskas award for his wonderstrike scored against current club Toronto FC in the Canadian Championship.
Oddly enough, the big Frenchman is up for the award thanks to a goal he scored against his current club back in May, when he was still a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps. Hassli's right-footed volley in stoppage time of the first leg of the Canadian Championship final pulled the 'Caps level after TFC's Ryan Johnson had opened the scoring nearly a half hour earlier.
Unfortunately for the Whitecaps, Toronto would win the second leg 1-0 at BMO Field and advance to the CONCACAF Champions League. Hassli was traded to TFC on July 20, 2012, allowing him to participate in Toronto's CCL run.
The goal puts Hassli in rare company, with other nominees including the likes of Lionel Messi, Radamel Falcao, and Brazilian sensation Neymar. The first round of voting for the Puskás award closes on Nov. 29, with the winner ultimately being announced at the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2012 Gala in January.
