Due to Hurricane Sandy, the Red Bulls will now travel to D.C. first, then host the return leg.Hurricane Sandy has forced Major League Soccer into a unique swap of the two-leg Eastern Conference semifinal between D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls.
DCU had home-field advantage in the series, with the first leg set for Red Bull Arena Saturday, then the second leg to take place at RFK Stadium on Wednesday. Due to damage and flooding around Red Bull Arena, and the suspension of many public transit options in the New York area, the two games have now been swapped.
United will now host the first leg Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET before traveling to Red Bull Arena for the return leg of the two-game, total-goal series on Nov. 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Both games will be televised on NBC Sports Network.
The move essentially hands home-field advantage to New York, but with a tight playoff schedule to keep up, the league was left with few options.
