The Montreal Impact went 4-0 in August and Patrice Bernier played a pivotal role in that streak.

Montreal Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier was named MLS player of the month on Tuesday for his performances in August which helped the Montreal Impact eventually go on a five-game winning streak.

Bernier recorded three goals and three assists in the Impact’s four games in August, and the local native leads the expansion side in points. Given his excellent form, Bernier has also been recalled to the Canadian national team, which will take on Panama this coming Friday in the third round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.

The midfielder said on Tuesday that he’s delighted with the award.

“I am very pleased to have received this honour, but it is foremost a team reward for the success we’ve had throughout the last month,” said Bernier via an Impact press release. “However, our team must continue to work and push hard to earn a playoff spot.”

With five games remaining in the season, the Impact are still pushing for a place in the playoffs and head coach Jesse Marsch hopes that Bernier will be able to continue his impeccable form.

“Patrice is very deserving of this honour,” said Marsch. “We know that he will continue his good form down the stretch and will help us make a final push for the playoffs.”

Montreal's next game is against the Chicago Fire in two weeks’ time.
