Vancouver's Richards agrees to join Burnley following MLS season

The Jamaican midfielder will make the jump to England in January.
The Vancouver Whitecaps have announced that midfielder Dane Richards will join English Championship club Burnley following the expiration of his MLS contract following the 2012 season.

“Dane is in the final year of his MLS contract, so we knew there was a strong possibility he might get offers from Europe for next season,” said Martin Rennie, Whitecaps FC head coach. “When we traded for Dane we received allocation money which is a valuable asset in our league.

"Dane will continue to be an important part of our squad as we push for a playoff spot, and we look forward to his contributions throughout the rest of the season before he starts with his new club Burnley FC.”

Richards, 28, joined the Whitecaps earlier this year in a trade with the New York Red Bulls, one that sent Sebastien Le Toux to Red Bull Arena. Scoring twice in seven matches with the Whitecaps, Richards is known as primarily a wide player.
