The veteran defender moves south of the border in exchange for an international roster spot for the 2014 season.

The Colorado Rapids acquired defender Tyson Wahl from the Montreal Impact Friday, in exchange for an international roster spot for the 2014 season.

Wahl started 11 regular-season games and two Canadian Championship games for the Impact in 2012, playing both at left back and at center back. The 28-year-old has been in MLS since 2006, and has spent time with the Kansas City and Seattle organizations.

“Tyson is a natural left-footed defender with good skill and size,” said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo. “We’re excited to be able to add such an experienced player without compromising our roster flexibility as we move into the second half of the season.”

Montreal, which has been the most active team so far this summer, thanked Wahl for his short time with Major League Soccer's newest franchise.

"He was very committed and showed a lot of leadership to this organization. We wish him the best of luck with the Rapids," said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch.
