Kaiserslautern midfielder Christian Tiffert flies to Seattle to examine Sounders offer

Tiffert had Bundesliga bids after FCK was relegated, but is now looking into the possibility of joining MLS.

Christian Tiffert flew to Seattle to negotiate with the Sounders over a possible deal to join MLS, according to German magazine Kicker. The 30-year-old was FC Kaiserslautern's captain last season.

"Christian has traveled to the U.S. to Seattle," FCK chairman Stefan Kuntz said. "He will listen to [the Sounders'] offer."

The midfielder scored two goals and added an assist during Bundesliga play last season. Kaiserslautern was relegated, finishing last in the 18-team league.

"I had many offers, from Bundesliga clubs too, but it hasn't worked out," Tiffert said. The former German youth international wants to see "whether a transfer to the U.S. makes sense."

Seattle midfielder Christian Sivebæk tweeted this week that he will return to Denmark, with official confirmation of his departure expected from the club Thursday. Tiffert could make for a quick replacement.
