The Los Angeles Galaxy have announced the acquisition of defender David Lopes from crosstown rivals Chivas USA. The defending MLS champions sent midfielder Paolo Cardozo in the other direction.
Lopes, 29, has enjoyed a long and well-traveled career to this point after beginning with Atletico Paranesaense of his native Brazil. He signed with Chivas USA before the end of the 2011 MLS season, and has made eight appearances for the club since.
The player going the other way, Cardozo, is in his second MLS season after being drafted by the Galaxy with the 16th overall pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. He made 18 appearances for the club before the trade to Chivas.
