The Los Angeles Galaxy have announced the signing of midfielder Juninho on loan from Sao Paulo for the 2012 MLS season. They also announced that defender Leonardo has signed on a free transfer. Per club and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
One of the most important players to the Galaxy's championship run in 2011, Juninho, 23, started 55 matches over his two years with the club, as well as five of six in the postseason. He was also selected for the 2011 MLS All-Star team due to his impressive play in the midfield.
Leonardo, 23, has also spent two seasons with the Galaxy, though he has only been able to make appearances in 17 of the club's 64 matches in that time due to injury. With Omar Gonzalez out for the season, his presence in the center of defense will be key to a successful 2012 season.
The Galaxy's first competitive match of the season comes on March 7 when they will take on Toronto FC in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal. Their 2012 MLS regular season campaign kicks off on March 10 at the Home Depot Center when Real Salt Lake comes to town.
