Toronto FC has signed defender Miguel Aceval from Chilean club Universidad de Concepcion, the team announced today. The deal is official pending receipt of the players International Transfer Certificate.
"Miguel is an experienced defender that has a lot of potential and can be very important for our club," said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director, Aron Winter. "Our defense needed to be addressed during the offseason and this signing complements our recent activity from last week."
The 29-year-old Chilean started his professional career with Santiago giant Colo Colo and played six years there before spells at four other clubs in his homeland and a stop in Uruguay with Defensor Sporting, and spent the 2011 season as a regular starter for Universidad de Concepcion. He made 30 appearances and scored five goals in league play in 2011.
Aceval also recently earned his first cap for the Chilean national team in a 1-0 friendly loss to Mexico on Sep. 4, 2011.
