The Montreal Impact signed central defender Shavar Thomas according to a release issued Friday.
Most recently the 29-year-old played with Sporting Kansas City. That was the Jamaican national team captain's second stint in Kansas City, and the defender has also had spells with LA Galaxy, Chivas USA and the Philadelphia Union. He has appeared in 170 MLS games over nine years.
At Chivas USA, he was a teammate of current Impact head coach Jesse Marsch.
“As captain of the Jamaican national team and a nine-year MLS veteran, we feel that Shavar will add great experience and quality to our team,” said Marsch.
Since Thomas has an American Green Card, he will not count towards the international roster spots.
