Omar Gonzalez underwent surgery to repair the torn ACL in his left knee Friday. Estimates following the successful procedure put the LA Galaxy defender out for seven to nine months.

The 2011 MLS Defender of the Year injured his knee during training with FC Nurnberg, which he joined on loan Jan. 4. In his first training session, Gonzalez injured the knee during a collision with fellow U.S. international Timothy Chandler.

The 23-year-old flew back to California for surgery. He will miss the brunt of the 2012 MLS season.
