New England has signed former D.C. United midfielder Clyde Simms. The midfielder was selected by the club in the 2011 Re-Entry Process and will add another MLS veteran to the Revolution squad.

Simms
made 182 regular season appearances, including 147 starts, while with United. Used primarily as a holding midfielder, Simms will add cover for Shalrie Joseph in the Revolution midfield and will allow new manager Jay Heaps some room to possibly use Joseph in a variety of different places on the pitch.

“We’re very pleased Clyde will be playing for the Revolution this season,” General Manager Michael Burns said. “He is a consistent player who provides a reliable presence in the midfield, as well as off the field and in the locker room."

Simms will join up with the team when the Revs open camp Jan. 16.
