The San Jose Earthquakes have announced that they have traded for FC Dallas midfielder Marvin Chavez in exchange for allocation money.

“Marvin is one of the most exciting players in MLS,” said Earthquakes General Manager John Doyle. “I can’t wait to see him in an Earthquakes uniform.”

Chavez, 28, is a native La Ceiba, Honduras and spent the last two years with FC Dallas, with his breakout season coming in 2011. Scoring six goals and adding four assists, Chavez was instrumental in the Western Conference side's impressive campaign. He started 30 of 31 matches he played in.

A frequent member of the Honduran national team, Chavez has been capped 23 times, scoring two goals in the process.
