The Philadelphia Union announced they have acquired Costa Rican international forward Josue Martinez from Club Deportivo Saprissa. He will be available upon receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate. Per league policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Martinez, 21, made his professional debut with Saprissa in 2009 after coming through the club's youth ranks. He has scored 18 goals in 43 total appearances with the team.

Internationally, Martinez made his debut with the full Costa Rica squad in June 2009, and has been capped 11 times, scoring two goals.

The Union will hope Martinez gives them another reliable goal-scorer alongside Sebastien Le Toux, something the club lacked during the 2011 campaign. Le Toux led the team with 11 goals and Danny Mwanga was second among active players with just five.
