Chivas USA announced that goalkeeper Dan Kennedy has signed a new multi-year contract with the club. Per league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kennedy, 29, had an outstanding 2011 campaign, appearing in 32 matches, all as a starter, and tallying nine shutouts and 100 saves. He was named the team's MVP for his efforts.

“Dan was our MVP this year, there was never a doubt that we wanted him back,” said Jose Domene, Chivas USA's general manager.

“His consistency and leadership both on and off the field were exemplary last season, and now moving towards the club’s objectives for 2012 of building a championship caliber team, securing Kennedy to a new contract was one of our priorities this offseason.”

Kennedy was selected by Chivas USA in the fourth round of the MLS Supplemental Draft prior to the 2005 season after a stellar career at UC Santa Barbara. He played professionally in Puerto Rico and Chile before returning to the Red-and-White during the 2008 season.

After backing up Zach Thornton for much of his time with Chivas USA, Kennedy claimed the starting job in 2011, and appears to have a lock on the position for the considerable future.
