Chivas USA announced Monday that it had re-signed defender Ante Jazic for the 2012 MLS season.
Jazic, 35 and with five years of MLS experience, had the option on his old contract declined, making him eligible for selection in Monday's Re-Entry Draft at his current salary. However, the team then re-signed the Canadian defender Monday.
Jazic, who has made 29 appearances and scored one goal for the Canadian national team, spent the first nine years of his career plying his trade in Croatia, Austria and Russia before moving to MLS in 2006, first with Chivas' crosstown rivals Los Angeles Galaxy, before making the switch to his current team.
Jazic has yet to register a goal in MLS play, but was Chivas USA's top provider with seven assists in the 2011 season, which brought his MLS assist total to 12. He also played substantially more minutes in 2011 (2,468) than in any of his other MLS seasons.
