FC Dallas announced it has re-signed veteran midfielder Daniel Hernandez to a three-year contract extension on Wednesday.

Under the new deal, Hernandez will play at least one more season with FCD before transitioning to an assistant coach role.

“Daniel has been such a great leader for us in the locker room and on the field,” said head coach Schellas Hyndman. “I’m very excited to have him back. He’s an integral part of our team. I had the pleasure of coaching him in college at SMU and I’m honored to be a part of this next transition for him and hope to pass along as much coaching knowledge as I can in the next three years."

Hernandez has appeared in 61 games for FC Dallas since joining the club late in 2009. A 13-year MLS veteran, he has played 176 MLS games in his career, starting 142 times, scoring six goals and adding 20 assists.

The 35-year-old made 30 regular season appearances for the Hoops in 2011, all of which were starts.

“Daniel is very much a part of the FC Dallas family both on and off the field and we are fortunate to have someone like him as a key ambassador for our club for years to come," said FC Dallas president and CEO Doug Quinn.
