Sporting Kansas City acquires midfielder Paulo Nagamura from Chivas USA
The veteran midfielder was traded in exchange for a first round selection in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft.

Sporting Kansas City and Chivas USA completed another trade Tuesday, as the Goats shipped midfielder Paulo Nagamura to Kansas City in exchange for a first round pick in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft.
The move comes a week after Sporting KC sent midfielder Ryan Smith to Chivas for first and third round supplemental picks. The Goats have now reacquired the first round pick they sent to Kansas City in the Smith deal.
Nagamura, 28, is a defensive midfielder who should help fill the void left when Sporting KC dealt Davy Arnaud to Montreal on Monday.
“Paulo Nagamura is a player within the league that we have watched and targeted for a few years,” Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes said. “We are happy that the timing has worked out, where we could acquire him from Chivas USA."
The Brazilian has been a solid performer for the Goats, earning an All-Star berth in 2009, but injuries have limited him to just 26 games played over the past two seasons.
“I am very excited to join Sporting Kansas City. I watched them the entire year during their run to the conference final and I’m happy to be part of the team, add depth to the midfield and fit right in,“ Nagamura said.
