Sporting Kansas City has signed veteran goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen to a contract extension, the club announced Monday.
The extension will see Nielsen stay with the club through the 2013 season, with Sporting also having an option for the 2014 season.
"There was never a question that I wanted to stay, after Peter told me that he would like me here as well," Nielsen said. "I’ve only had Sporting on my mind, and I’m excited to play in front of our fans for the next couple of years that lie ahead as we work towards winning a championship."
Nielsen, has been Kansas City's starter since joining the club at the beginning of the 2010 season, when he received an All-Star nomination on the back of 10 clean sheets. Nielsen started 31 matches in 2011, posting a goals against average of 1.14 , for which he was named team MVP.
