Chicago Fire representatives have engaged Eredivisie side Twente in talks over the future of talented Guatemalan midfielder Marco Pappa, who would join the Dutch side in January.

Twente has made it clear to MLS and Pappa's agent that he's been on its radar for months now, but the player has a binding contract with the Illinois side that will forcibly require a loan deal or a definitive sale.

Pappa, who initially joined Chicago on a loan deal in 2008, has expressed his interest in moving abroad, telling Goal.com exclusively in July that he feels he's "getting closer to the next step [playing in Europe]" and that "any of the world's top leagues would be a great thing to achieve."

In four seasons with the Fire, the 24-year-old Pappa has scored 20 league goals and won himself 24 caps for Guatemala, scoring four goals and notably getting on the board in this year's Gold Cup.
