thumbnail Hello,

The Colorado Rapids are on cloud 14 as they get their star striker back.

It has been rare to see the MLS Cup winning Colorado Rapids all out on the field at the same time in 2011. Injuries, suspensions, and national team call-ups have hindered the Rapids from using a familiar starting XI this season.

One player who has been missed by fans of all ages is about to make his return. He is the missing part of the dynamic duo with Conor Casey, the unofficial DP, Omar Cummings. After weeks of being on the injured list with an ankle injury, #14 is scheduled to make his return to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park Saturday night, when the Colorado Rapids face LA Galaxy in a highly anticipated battle.

“It’s a big boost. Just to see him out is really exciting,” Coach Gary Smith said. “I would expect as with Conor, it takes time to find the pace of the game and get your sharpness back. The quicker we can do that, the more we can accelerate that process, the sooner we can get all of those combinations going. I’m looking forward to the day that we’ve got Conor (Casey) and Omar back in as a pair, we’ve got Caleb (Folan) fully fit, and we’ve got the forgotten man in Mac (Kandji)."

“It’s going to be a very exciting day for me when I can see all those guys back on the field again,” Smith added. “But I don’t want to take anything away from what the other guys have done. Guys like Quincy (Amarikwa) and Andre (Akpan), have had an opportunity to show what they are about, and have done a very good job.”

In spite of the obstacles the Rapids have had to face, they have enjoyed an impressive eight-game undefeated streak.

“It’s always good when you have speed,” veteran Tyrone Marshall explained. “Speed kills, for sure. Omar brings out an element to the game that is giving the defenders more space. With Caleb as a hold up guy, and Conor gives you the touch over the top, but Omar brings another element. Defenders have to get back on their heels. It is great to see him back in there. Hopefully he can bring something this weekend.”
