SANDY, Utah -- The Seattle Sounders bounced back from a midweek loss against FC Dallas by defeating Real Salt Lake 2-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium Saturday.

“I'm just proud of the guys to be able to bounce back,” captain Kasey Keller said. “It was nice to hold on and win the [match], credit to the guys.”

Salt Lake had not lost a home MLS match in over two years. The league-record undefeated streak lasted 29 matches before ending Saturday.

“To take the record this team had for two years is not easy,” forward Freddy Montero said. “We decided to recuperate the points we lost at home as visitors, and that is how we thought of this game.”

Seattle was aided by a straight red card issued in the 58th minute to Salt Lake's Jamison Olave for a tactical foul that denied a goal-scoring opportunity. The match was scoreless at that point; however, Seattle was able to capitalize on the man advantage and go ahead 2-0 before Salt Lake pulled one back.

Seattle's second goal was the first career MLS tally for Lamar Neagle, whose strike from distance turned out to be the deciding play of the match.

“It was definitely nice [to get my first goal]. I've had a couple in the reserve league, but not like that,” Neagle said. “I turned, saw where Rimando was, and tried to hit it outside of him. And it all worked out.”

The victory ends a sour May on a positive note for the Sounders, who went 2-2-2 on the month. The month included a 1-1-1 record at home, as well as a loss at DC United.

Wednesday's loss to Dallas was punctuated by a jab from coach Sigi Schmid at Montero for not scoring. After this match, both Montero and Schmid were all smiles and spoke positively of each other.

“We were disappointed in Wednesday's game,” Schmid said. “It feels great [to get the win].”
