A second half penalty from Shalrie Joseph gave the Revs the much-needed three points against visiting Vancouver.
Vancouver came out and held most of the possession early in the first half. New England seemed to be creating their own problems in the first 10 minutes of the half by putting the ball through the crowded midfield.
In the 15th minute New England had the first attempt on net in the half. Midfielder Chris Tierney made a cross from the left side of the field into the Vancouver box. Midfielder Stephan McCarthy found the ball about 12 yards from the net but his strike went over the bar.
New England again had a promising attempt on net in the 19th minute. Once again Chris Tierney made a cross into the Vancouver which this time was met by New England midfielder Benny Feilhaber. Feilhaber had a chance to put a header on net but did not connect with the ball well.
Chris Tierney did well in the left midfield position in the first half. In the 28th minute he took a free kick about 25 yards out that went just over the net.
In 43rd minute the Whitecaps got their first good effort on net as striker Omar Salgado received a ball at the top of the New England box and turned well. However, Revolution defender Kevin Alston caught him before he could get a shot on a net and made a good tackle.
In the 44th Salgado got another chance on net outside the 18 yard box and made better work of it. However, Matt Reis saved his shot well.
New England got the go ahead goal they had been looking for in the past few weeks on a penalty kick in the 48th minute. Benny Feilhaber earned the penalty at the top of the Vancouver area as Whitecap defender Wes Knight caught Felihaber as he was crossing over. Shalrie Joesph easily put the PK past Vancouver goalkeeper Jay Nolly, giving the home side the advantage.
Vancouver looked for the equalizer in the 70th minute as Blake Wagner made a cross to the dangerous Omar Salgado who headed the ball towards the post. Matt Reis sprawled out and pushed the header away to prevent the equalizer.
In the 76th minute Feilhaber looked to put the game away for New England as he had a strike from outside the Vancouver box headed towards the far post. Jay Nolly made good movement across his net to stop Feilhaber from earning his first ever MLS goal.
Nyassi had his chance of the season in the 82nd minute as he beat a few defenders a struck a ball to the far post. Yet again Jay Nolly made a cross net save to prevent another New England goal.
In the 88th Vancouver had their best chance of the game as midfielder Shea Sallnas made a cross from the right to forward Long Tan in the New England box. Tan took the ball in the air on a volley towards Matt Reis but could not get it past the Revolution keeper.
