The expansion Portland Timbers bolstered their midfield options Wednesday, trading for former USA youth international Sal Zizzo.
Zizzo, 23, made ten appearances and one start for Chivas USA last season after being acquired in a weighted lottery in July 2010.
The California native featured prominently in the USA youth setup, starting with the U.S. U-18 Team before playing with the U-20’s for the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He's also been capped once for the senior team in a 2007 friendly against Sweden.
Zizzo left UCLA early to sign with Hannover 96 of the Bundesliga in 2007. He made eight appearances for Hannover's top side, and spent time playing with the reserves as well. After a knee injury ended his 2009-10 season, Zizzo returned home to MLS.
