thumbnail Hello,

Ex-defender not in favor of a temporary switch for the midfielder.

Former LA Galaxy defender Alexi Lalas does not see the necessity for David Beckham to make a loan move to a European club.

The ageing midfielder has done so twice before, when he wanted to remain in contention to be picked for the World Cup - though an injury at AC Milan ruled him out of the tournament.

But now the 35-year-old is thought to be keen on a move away from his current employers during the MLS off-season, with Tottenham and Blackburn interested in acquiring his services.

"American soccer fans are saying David Beckham has given a lot but he has also taken a tremendous amount out of Major League Soccer," Lalas told BBC 5 Live.

"The reason David Beckham went over to Milan was to prepare, in theory for the World Cup," he added.

"I think that was commendable and understandable to a certain extent but now it is happening once again."

Goal.com UK recently revealed exclusively that Tottenham are pondering over a permanent transfer for Beckham, should he make a loan move to the north London club during the current window.
