thumbnail Hello,

McCarthy was then traded to D.C. United.

For only the second time in MLS history, two teams participated in the Expansion Draft when the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps alternated picks Wednesday afternoon. Previously, 2005 featured both Real Salt Lake and Chivas USA.

Portland held the first pick overall and promptly plunged for Dax McCarty. FC Dallas raised eyebrows across the league by leaving the U.S. international midfielder available. The Timbers then quickly flipped McCarthy and an undisclosed amount of allocation money to D.C. United for Anthony Wallace and a fourth round draft selection.

Of course, the Timbers had their own share of interesting decisions, in particular selecting Jonathan Bornstein and Robbie Findley. Both are headed abroad after fulfilling their MLS contracts, with Bornstein already signed for Tigres in Mexico and rumors of Findley heading to Denmark.

Vancouver chose Sanna Nyassi from Seattle Sounders FC with their first selection, and also grabbed O'Brian White from Toronto FC to give those rivalries a fiery beginning.
