Chivas USA announced today that it has loaned striker Maykel Galindo to FC Tampa Bay. The Cuban striker has struggled to carve out playing time behind Justin Braun and recent addition Giancarlo Maldonado, making just four starts and scoring one goal in 2010.

Galindo burst onto the MLS scene in 2007 with 12 goals and devastating pace, forging a potent striking combination with Ante Razov. Since then, however, the Cuban defector has struggled with a series of niggling injuries.

Finding his full fitness is the stated reason for Galindo's loan to Tampa Bay.

“This move allows Maykel to get first team matches as he works toward regaining his form,” said Chivas USA head coach Martín Vásquez in a press release. “The opportunity exists for him to return to our team this season or next.”

Galindo emerged from the American second tier leagues after excelling with the USL Seattle Sounders. Tampa Bay features in the USSF D2 Pro League, a combination of the USL and NASL.
